New Backdrop Family Welcome
SPEAKER_01We are back for the new backdrop to have my family on this first podcast with the new backdrop. Uh obviously business owning uh entrepreneurship is not easy. It's it's a grind, it's a hustle, but it's also a grind even more on your partner and your kids. So we'll get to talk about how it's been the last couple years uh growing goaded, um the sacrifices, the ups, the downs, anything we want to talk about today. I don't have really a plan besides asking some questions and and uh hopefully being a light to those. Everything we do at Goaded is God over all things, and I wouldn't be able to do that in hard times uh without my wife and my best friends, so and my kids. My kids are awesome and a blessing.
SPEAKER_02So we've tried many different ways to kind of force a structure, but it was me having to realize that there's not really gonna be any regular scheduler routine, um, at least in this stage still in business where you're so needed. I think uh my encouragement to wives is be flexible. And um, you know, you're at least for me, I you know, there's times where I would be frustrated where on a trip and you're on your phone, you know, a lot, and then I have to tell myself I'm like, we wouldn't be able to be here if we you know wasn't able to do these calls and and do what's needed. So we wouldn't get these traps and these experiences, so just flexibility and just understanding um your husband or whoever is um having the business.
SPEAKER_01Goaded Mentality Podcast. We are back. We have a new backdrop, so I thought it was a perfect uh episode for the new backdrop to have my family on this first podcast with the new backdrop. Um been very blessed. A lot has happened, probably since you last listened. We have a lot of uh great things happening, God has blessed goaded, and uh excited to have the family. We had them on the Thanksgiving podcast, and but as a brief brief time, you guys haven't been on the podcast. Um we had a couple weeks ago, I was on another podcast, and Ava did a great job. So I said we should do a family one today. Without further ado, my wife, my my uh partner for the last 11 years, we just celebrated 10 years married. Yeah, and we have a third on the way. We've never announced that uh on the podcast yet. We have a baby girl on the way in December, and uh this is KJ, our oldest. KJ stands for Kevin Joseph Van Duzer the third. He's turning eight in December, and Ava K. Van Duzer is turning six in November. Are you excited for that? Uh so blessed to have them on the podcast. I'm a very blessed man, more than I deserve, uh, as you can tell. Um, my wife uh for the last couple years obviously has been able to um stay home and and even since we had our kids, she's been able to stay home and homeschool, which has been a big blessing, the biggest win uh I'm told frequently by other business owners that uh this is this is winning, and I know that. I know God's blessed more than I deserve. Uh so I want to talk a little bit a little bit about that and how that fits into goaded. Uh last thing I'll say before I pass on my wife on the first question is uh obviously business owning uh entrepreneurship is not easy. It's it's a grind, it's a hustle, but it's also a grind, even more on your partner and your kids. So we'll get to talk about how it's been the last couple years uh growing goaded, um the sacrifices, the ups, the downs, anything we want to talk about today. The Real Cost Of Entrepreneurship
SPEAKER_01So it's gonna be a great episode. So excited. Um so I guess first thing, babe, how how is the last uh since this is a goaded mentality podcast, what's what's been uh your favorite thing or or the biggest trial uh as we launched this together three years ago?
SPEAKER_02I think just figuring out the balance of work, family life, just with any profession. Obviously, entrepreneurship is 24-7 and feels like even more than that sometimes. Um, but I think that's been the biggest challenge, just figure out how to still make time to be together while also, of course, you know, building a business from the start takes a lot and there's a lot of changes.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, we've had uh we've had dinners at three o'clock, we've had dinners at ten o'clock and midnight, we've had uh days without seeing each other, even though I'm in town. I get home before uh or I get home after you guys go to bed and I leave before you go to sleep a lot uh the last couple years, not as often. But um we've been very blessed uh to be able to still have time together. And then there's been a lot of times where uh luckily you guys get to homeschool, so you get to come on trips with me, but you also get to come to the office in the middle of the morning, middle of the day. Um and we do have a fun office. We got some some chipping and putting in both places. You get to take some golf lessons with Coach Harry now. Um we get to do a lot together um on trips as well, like I said, which is awesome. But it was not easy. First couple years, especially as streamers, we stream on on uh whatnot. We're about to stream more on TikTok and eBay and others other platforms. You do that all hours of the day, and when the West Coast uh customers and west coast family is up, you gotta kind of be doing shows for them too. So um we talked frequently about Alec uh and our other streamers that have had to find that balance. Not easy. In entrepreneurship, uh obviously it creates uh what I do or why I I've loved to be an entrepreneur is to create freedom for um myself and others. My brothers work for us now and goaded are huge blessings to the business. Uh my best friends from high school work for us, Jesse and Marco have worked for me and uh and goaded and and I try to create freedom for them as well, which is awesome. Um, but it's not always a full freedom thing, right? There's there's 2 a.m., 3 a.m. conversations, there's uh 8 a.m. conversations that need to have, and there's website issues all day and night uh that we have to uh troubleshoot. But luckily, the biggest thing is something I've learned from my wife is uh just knowing that God has a plan and knowing that uh if we put our assets and our time and our choices in God's hands and we give those things to God, um all of it's enjoyable, right? There's no uh there's no stress that's too much, and obviously it piles up, but when it's God's will and it's God's business, we don't have to worry about much. My kids have obviously been a blessing too, so they get to stay home with mom, which some days you're listening, you can imagine, is uh is a lot, and some days, most days it's a huge blessing, uh, because they love each other and treat each other so well and they're great to be around. And luckily, our oldest is one of the sweetest uh kids I've ever met. He's uh he's got a sweet spirit to him and he loves Jesus, and and that helps because if he was the oldest and the leader and he had a little different uh posture and different heart, uh it would be not easy. And Ava's our fighter, Ava's our little our little rug rat, but she is she loves Jesus too, and she can be uh the sweetest at times, our sour patch, our sour patch kid. And she can
From Living Room To Office
SPEAKER_01be the one that will tell you what she thinks, which is kind of like her daddy. Um but she's a blessing too, and and her brother is a big good leader for her. So, KJ, how has it been since so you were five when we no, you were four when we started goaded. So you don't really remember life before goaded, do you? Do you remember where I worked before goaded?
SPEAKER_03Lagshot.
SPEAKER_01Lagshot. So you were a baby when I was working at Lagshot, and then before that I was working, you wouldn't remember, you were two. But I was in the golf space. But do you remember kind of the transition from when we started goaded? Remember when remember where mommy and I sold products first when when me, her and Chris started the business? Remember when we were doing shows?
SPEAKER_05A little bit.
SPEAKER_01Where were we doing shows? Do you remember?
SPEAKER_05At home.
SPEAKER_01At home? So our first growth in the business was we were doing shows at home. And uh we would put the kids to sleep or try to put them in their rooms, and then we'd turn on the music. My wife and I would sell uh sell products, golf products, and my wife would label them and help me ship till two in the morning. And then we'd call Chris the next morning at 9 a.m. and say, hey, we had a good show last night. Let's uh help me, or you want to come over and we'll figure out inventory and other stuff. But um that was kind of where we started, and luckily we got to move to another building because I wasn't working, we were screaming downstairs, or I was screaming for the live stream. Um, and then we moved out of that house, got to move next to Jojo and grandpa, which is my parents. Jojo and grandpa are blessings to go to our family. Uh we live two doors down from my grandparents or from my parents, their grandparents. So homeschooling is even more fun. It's a blessing to uh homeschool in the mornings and then they get to go swim or hang out at at JoJo's and um what have you liked about goaded, KJ?
SPEAKER_04I like that all the shipping stuff is kind of fun.
SPEAKER_01All the shipping stuff? All the boxes and all the tape and nice. Yeah, he likes hanging out in the back area and helping. And the 3D printers.

Trips RV Life And Puppy
SPEAKER_01favorite trip we've taken? We took some golf trips? Missouri. Big Cedar. Yeah, we had a cool Airbnb. We brought a lot of the team to Big Cedar, which is uh Johnny Morris, the owner of Bass Pro, created a cool golf destination. And we've been there a couple times, but this last time they were a little bit older. We took an RV with uh Alec and Ariel and Ashton, and we drove all the way across the country, right?
SPEAKER_02Not as bad as the movie RV, but it was an experience. Yes.
SPEAKER_01The RV was my idea, and I think uh I learned a lot through that experience. But we had a great time. I think uh it was a time to remember we drove across all those states all the way to Missouri from Florida, South Florida. Getting out of South Florida takes seven hours itself when you're driving, so it's not easy. Um but we drove through the night the first night and we went up there, state of the cool Airbnb, and then Chris and Johnny and Michael. Who else got to join us? Will got to fly in from his golf tournament. We brought our new puppy. We also have a new puppy named Oscar. No, named Jack. Uh we have a King Cavalier Caboo mix. Poodle King Cavalier mix. I'm not really a dog person. Ava asked five different Santa Clauses for a dog, and I couldn't I couldn't say no anymore.
SPEAKER_02So she does have a dog many times, so we gave in. Yes.
SPEAKER_01And he's been he's been a good little dog or addition to our family. We uh we brought him on the on that trip with us, so that was fun. Available was your favorite trip in the RV? Or do you like our trips to Disney? You like Missouri? We've been doing some good golf trips.
SPEAKER_05My favorite part was when you were golfing and we went over and saw the buffaloes.
SPEAKER_01Oh yeah. So we were playing in a golf tournament and Missouri has some buffaloes. They got to go. Buffalo orange, right? Yeah. They have some buffaloes uh just kind of hanging out in the field, but they were close to the fence. You guys got to go and kind of hear some big buffaloes.
SPEAKER_03Remember that?
SPEAKER_01They were growling or making a they don't growl, but they're making a noise at you. They're like noise.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
Pregnancy Trials Miscarriage Hope
SPEAKER_01Um, I was gonna say, uh, obviously, blessing podcast here. We have uh uh we have great kids and we're blessed. My wife has been home with them since they were born, and both of their pregnancies were not easy. My wife and I grew a lot closer. I grew a lot closer to God in our in our pregnancies and to my wife and the love for my wife. I didn't think I could love her anymore. Uh but seeing her uh grind through the pregnancies uh that were not easy. Kju was a very difficult pregnancy. He's a miracle baby. Um we lived in the hospital for a good fifty days, right? Over 12 weeks, whatever. Twelve weeks. Um so 50 si 56 days? No, more than that. Almost 80 days. But Marla was bed rest and couldn't move for a good six to eight of those weeks to keep KJ healthy and growing. Um, so it was a blessing. And when he was born, yeah, we actually went home three days after he was born. He didn't have to be in the ICU.
SPEAKER_03He was just small.
SPEAKER_01He's a strong boy. And Ava um was pretty a good pregnancy, healthy pregnancy for the most part. We had some difficulties, and Marla did everything she had to do to keep her safe and keep her safe and healthy. And um we had uh our precious Ava girl. And we've been trying for about five years, not not uh we've been praying and we're trusting God's timing. We've had some other um miscarriages, and we've had we've had times where um we were trusting God and in storms and just uh grateful for God's timing and provision. We even had a a pregnancy that was not great. Marla had to go through chemo uh therapy to to just have uh some things cleaned out and and uh and have the babies um that we were expecting, the baby that we were expecting, um, just fully um over and healed and Marla to be healed. So there were times in those in that five years that we had to uh um just trust God and and know his timing, and my my wife's a beautiful uh example of of trusting God in that and times when she wanted um times when she was going through a bunch of stuff with her own body, which is not easy, and then also um just wanting another baby. We both did and just learned how to trust God there. But now it's fun to announce we have another baby on the way. Yes. And Ivy's Ivy is is the name. She's growing healthy each week, and mommy's made it through the first trimester, and uh we're excited for another baby in Christmas. Um so I want to say we have uh because our kids are so great, people will ask, and I most of the time I try to remember to point to God first, and uh that's obviously where we're um that's what we're focused on as a family, and a lot of times um I forget uh to to give God that credit, obviously, to have have our our kids that were such a blessing. Um and we want to remember those things, but my wife has obviously done a great job raising them and homeschooling them uh with me. And I wanted to ask um the
Family Values Scripts For Kids
SPEAKER_01kids. So one thing I heard a long time ago, I don't know if it was TikTok or Instagram, but it has helped our family a lot, and I I really like what we um have an A or have an active as a family. Um we have a saying in our family. So we will frequently ask the kids, we will say, Who are we? And they say, Ava, who are we?
SPEAKER_05Van users.
SPEAKER_01And what are van doesers?
SPEAKER_05Kind, loving, sharing, no whining.
SPEAKER_01Kind, loving, sharing, no whining. So a lot of times when they were growing up, we would say. Yeah, and who do we love?
SPEAKER_03Jesus. Jesus.
SPEAKER_01So a lot of times in in times of meltdowns and in times of um selfishness or fighting over a toy or worried about who got the bigger piece of candy or whatever it was, we would say, Who are we? And they would go, Van Doozers. And I'd say, What are band doozers? Kind, loving, sharing, and we would add things. We that's why I added the no whining and added some other things. Um and then we also say frequently, I'll ask the kids, what's our job?
SPEAKER_04To show people Jesus.
SPEAKER_01Yes. So I'll ask them that if you're a parent or planning to be a parent, I would still try to enact something that aligns with what you believe. But our kids, even uh in the grocery store when there's a meltdown happening, usually it's our Ava girl. I can say, Hey, what's our job? And she'll say, What's our job?
SPEAKER_05To show people Jesus.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, and it usually helps her calm down and take a breath because people in the grocery store are wondering what happened to this child and why she's throwing a fit. No kidding. You know, really. Really? Really.
SPEAKER_02We just came from public, so yeah.
SPEAKER_01So those things are good. I I literally learned that from an Instagram or TikTok post. Um, and I don't think it was uh it wasn't entirely that, but we formed it as a couple, and and those things have helped um with our our kids knowing what the focus of our family is. Kind of like when you lead a business, I've talked about is you need to know where your employees or your employees need to know where you're headed and what the vision is, and when you're hiring, when you're trying to grow your employees and and staff and team, you need to know what the vision is and where we're headed as a family and as a business. So
Homeschooling Rhythms And Community
SPEAKER_01that's what we try to enact. Um, Babe, what is your in your um you've ministered to a lot of good friends and they've ministered to you, but what would you say has been important in keeping sane in homeschooling um or community or any of those things to stay?
SPEAKER_02That's a broad question. Um for homeschooling specifically, and even just staying home, being a staying home parent, um getting out of the house I think is very important because most people assume homeschooling you're just sitting at home. And if you've ever had a time in your life where you're just sitting at home, you know you start to go star crazy, and even kids, you know, it's hard to just stay in the same area um all day long. So I think just finding things you guys enjoy doing together. Um, and there's different seasons for different things, and also don't be afraid to say no because there's been times where we sign up for several things and realize this is too much. So you just scale back. So I think it's just um realizing what's best for your family and changing as needed.
SPEAKER_01No, that's good. And getting together with with friends are our homeschool groups are really all over the US from what I've found, are are people that follow the word. There are groups. You might have to drive a little bit farther in some scenarios. We're lucky that luckily uh we're lucky to have a Naples and a uh Fort Myers, Collier Lee. There's a bunch of different homeschool groups that love Jesus and want to get together and have a good community and do some some outdoor outdoor stuff. So get in those communities if you're thinking about homeschooling. I'd say, what would you tell? I don't even know where we started, but how'd you you're in some moms groups? Facebook.
SPEAKER_02There's um, you know, every state I'm sure has like homeschooling and then your state on Facebook. Um, even we have like a local Southwest Florida homeschool group, and there's so many people they'll just post in there with their group is who um if they're looking for new members. Ours uh that we joined is a little different. Most co-ops is what they call them. Um the parents have to teach in it, which we tried one of those, and I didn't mind teaching in it, but it just wasn't a good fit to do the learning with other kids. I feel like we might as well just learn at home where we don't have all the distractions, and then we do field trips and other type of educational experiences, but the book work, the academics and uh for us has worked better to just do at home, get it done, and then once we're out, they just want to play, have fun, explore.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, my wife when I met her, she was um she was working for the government, she was doing um Department of Revenue, she worked for Department of Revenue, uh in town in Naples. Um but she always wanted to be a teacher, she was great with great with kids. She wanted to be a missionary actually when I met her. I think you wanted to spend some time overseas. Yeah. And I said, Man, I gotta marry that this girl. The first date we went on, um, I wanted to marry her right away. And first time we hung out. So um I didn't have the full feeling that maybe she would teach homeschool our kids. Um, but I had a feeling that she might I I knew she would be a great mother. And uh it's I'd be crazy not to say um what I've said to a lot of kids as I coach is uh and young young kids that we've hired on staff and other things is the two most important decisions you're gonna make in your life. The first one is your faith, and your second one is who you marry. And in this country, if you do things in this order, you get married, or you get an education, you get married and have kids, you have a much higher percentage uh chance of succeeding if you do things in that order. If you do things out of order, the odds go down a little bit. So stay married.
SPEAKER_03That's for a while as well.
SPEAKER_01Yes. So um I'd be crazy not to say that. Now I was gonna say too, since she was a teacher, uh, before we had kids, when she was going through KJ's pregnancy and even some really really tough times in the pregnancy, she was ordered to have bed rest and have uh some Sometimes uh without lifting things and without going, but your job uh where you were teaching, you had to go upstairs and still had to do some things, which was not easy. Uh, 'cause she didn't get the if she took the time off early, she wasn't able to have um as much time after the pregnancy. So um she was still teaching and uh when she left or when she left was when we had kids, she never went back after we had kids. I say that to say if you don't have a teaching background or you were looking to homeschool your kids, like my wife said, there are um co-ops that have teaching, like my wife mentioned.
SPEAKER_02There are some schools and some I wanna say I think that's a misconception that you don't need to be a teacher to teach your kids because there's curriculums that have everything laid out for you. And there's online ones. Uh especially elementary ages, and as they get older, they're probably gonna be doing more online anyway, um, where you don't have to necessarily know everything that you're teaching your kids, and also if you want to be the one to teach them, you can learn it. And that's something yes, I was a teacher, but I feel like I use almost nothing that I learned from being a teacher for homeschooling because it doesn't necessarily apply. And when you're a teacher in in the school, you're mostly teaching to the test. So the test at the end of the year, the tests um that they take quarterly, those are your goals. And once you're past that, you just can kind of breathe and move to the next test. And homeschooling you cater more to your child's desires, their needs, and you can focus more easily on where their struggles are and um teach to what they need.
SPEAKER_01Yes, you've had times where KJ's doing better or he was doing better with um what is it called? Like uh like movement and learning, or obviously he oh no, you've said he likes a subject better, and you could spend longer on a subject rather than jumping to the next one and following the curriculum, right?
SPEAKER_02Or even like for reading, if he's really into snakes, get snake library books. Yeah, instead of following.
SPEAKER_01No, he's been great at that. And they both read at a higher level than they're supposed to and do better. And uh, and we're not saying these things hopefully and not taking it to to brag or anything. I'm just very encouraged by um trust like marrying marrying the right right woman and listening to her, and which I had to learn. We went through times uh in our marriage with uh where it wasn't the easiest and it wasn't always gonna be this forever marriage, which uh I've said transparently at times we've had to go through counseling and our stuff. It's not easy to stay married and and to uh and to submit and to not be offended and and uh and to work on yourselves. It's not easy to work on yourself. So I'm not saying any of that to uh brag, I'm just saying to encourage today um to invest in your kids, obviously, and and spend time and the time that they're in your house is very important. I talk about that frequently, making sure the stuff that's coming into your house, my wife does a great job of too. We've tag teamed um what they watch and what they listen to, and um it's a constant battle because I go to friends' houses or family members' houses, and and there's some different rules, and we try to follow and help in a loving way ask them to follow those rules too. But um, our body's the temple, we want to protect what we put into it um food-wise and audio, visual, and everything else. So I want to encourage you to do that.
Bible Habits Marriage Counseling Lessons
SPEAKER_01Obviously, uh it's what God commands us to do in a lot of ways, too. Um, okay, so the Bible is very important to our family. I will be honest, I'm 38. I haven't appreciated the Bible like I have the last two years. And I grew up in a great home that had us memorize the Bible, went to Iwanas, we went to summer camps, Bible uh Bible camp, what's it called? Summer Bible or uh summer camp? No, there's BBS, Vacation Bible school. I know. Um we did a lot of those things, and until the last couple years, even the last couple months on that, um, I've started to really enjoy and value the Bible. Um take it for I took it for granted for a long time. Um so our kids um memorize verses. We work throughout the year, they've had summer and we're still doing some school, but I've been asking them, my dad frequently asks uh how old you are. He asked grown men, how old are you? And we'll say 38 or some people say 45, 50, and he'll go, Do you have 50 if you're 50, do you have 50 verses that you've memorized? Because you've had 50 years to memorize 50 verses. And a lot of our guys on Tuesday Bible studies um we chuckle about that, but it challenges us to memorize. If you can't memorize a verse a year, the most important book uh for us, um, you've gotta you've gotta find a way to do it and catch up. So um I'm I've crossed that number for 38, but our kids, you're eight, and you're or seven and five, but almost eight and six, and I challenged them the other day to be able to, and they do have those memorized. Sometimes we have to remind them the first word or the second word. Um, but get in the word. Um, and a lot of issues that come up in marriage and in parenting is found in the Bible. Now, Jesus walked the best life you can walk um on this earth and is the most documented, most um, most uh I guess written about uh person in the in the in the world's time, in our earth's time. Um and he didn't get married and he didn't have kids while he was here. So I do I did uh in one Bible study say, Man, I wish I wish uh Jesus would have lasted a little bit longer. He could see us how to he could show us how to start a business, show us how to handle marriage and handle how to have kids. But he did, and his word, uh, and God's word has uh a lot in the Old Testament and New Testament on how to be the best spouse, the best person, the best father, dad that we can be. And it has stuff for kids too. What's one verse? Children, obey.
SPEAKER_04Your mother, mother, and father. And your days will be long in the other.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, that's a good one for us parents. Children, obey your mother and father, and your days will be long on the earth. And I'll go, do you want your days to be long on the earth? Of course. We want our days to be long on the earth, especially as a kid. So, it's great verses in there that our kids are are frequently reminded of. Okay. I have another question. I was gonna tell a joke, but you guys have better jokes. Now, there's no response here, so I was gonna see if you had you you told us a good joke today. You wanna say it or you have another joke? Oh, I know what's here.
SPEAKER_05What'd the salad dressing say to the refrigerator door? Close the door on dressing.
SPEAKER_01Yes, with uh what has a head and a tail and no body. A coin, yeah, a quarter. Um no, we have uh we have a lot of great times too. A lot of times uh legalistic, it can be tempting to g to be legalistic, and and I never really knew what that word was, but um entirely, but when I had kids, obviously I was more aware, more awoke or uh more aware of that that term, right? And I didn't want to um be all gloom and doom, but we do have a lot of great times. And music has gotten a lot better. We like yeah, you want to do a joke?

SPEAKER_01We had our knock knock freeze, or phase too. Some really good ones. Grandpa helps with a lot of those. Grandpa's been on the podcast before and he he has a hard time being serious. He's a good addition to our our our uh funny jokes. Um no, but I I say that to say I want you want to have times where you also relax as a family and enjoy as a family, which we do. You don't want to be too uh over the top with no's and yeses and what comes into the house. We do, we actually just started introing, not introing, but allowing some some candy and food coloring and stuff that we were very hard on the first couple years of their lives, and it's a lot easier now, or it's a lot uh oh it's a lot easier now uh because they know they're not supposed to have something, which is kind of how we were or not to have a lot of something, but the uh we do want to let them enjoy life, obviously. God's given us uh this time to enjoy life.
SPEAKER_02I think it's fine. Birthday parties, you know, occasionally here and there. I'm not gonna die.
SPEAKER_01But growing up, we did try to be careful what what they put in their bodies, right? What are you laughing about? You guilty something?
Flexibility Offense And Selflessness
SPEAKER_01Um okay. I want to ask my wife too. Last thing, how are we doing on time? We're almost there. Um, so what would you encourage um wives of entrepreneurs that you had to break me of or something you had to you had to communicate with me to just keep yourself sane, especially with kids at home?
SPEAKER_02Um, I don't know about necessarily something to communicate with you. I think we've tried many different ways to kind of force a structure, but it was me having to realize that there's not really gonna be any regular scheduler routine, um, at least in this stage, still in business where you're so needed. I think uh my encouragement to wives is be flexible. And um, you know, you're at least for me, I you know, there's times where I would be frustrated. We're on a trip and you're on your phone, you know, a lot, and then I have to tell myself, I'm like, but we wouldn't be able to be here if he you know wasn't able to do these calls and and do what's needed. So we wouldn't get these trips and these experiences. So just flexibility and just understanding of your husband or whoever is um having the business, and there's lots of times we'll have dinner at the office with you or um you know, last minute today, come to a podcast and um just being flexible, which is nice also being able to stay home. I can do that. We don't have to get up early the for school or you know, take the kids at certain times, other than you know, our few obligations we have, but just flexibility and understanding.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, that uh the selfest or selflessness is crucial in really any marriage, but in a marriage that's uh we're in a time where it's not even entrepreneurship, it's really there's more and more um work from home jobs, there's more and more contractor jobs, and I think COVID and a couple other seasons our country's been through has has taught the workforce how nice it is to be at home and work from the beach and how nice it is to work for yourself. Um so not necessarily even owning a business, but um I'll echo that and I'm hearing her s say that and I'm thinking, man, I I also want to make times when we're on vacation to not be on my phone. I do get convicted um on that and not being offended. I used to we we all we struggled uh together in being offended, right? And when you're offended, uh offense is the bait is something that our our counseling, yeah.
SPEAKER_02And we will never forget that.
SPEAKER_01No. When you're offended, that means you're thinking of yourself, right? And uh instead of your partner who you say you love and you'll do anything for is telling you something that's bothering them, it should excite you. It should be something that you can go, okay, I get it. She might not understand that I have a fire burning at the office that I have to put put out right now, but I I don't need to respond in um you have no idea, or this is about or in a selfish way, right? Or be offended and respond in a non-loving way. So um, and there's also times when I need to say, you're right, this is not even a serious issue. I'm just looking at growth stuff, or I just can't shut it off mentally, and and since you're wanting to spend time together, I need to shut this this phone off or this conversation on for a second. So um it's all about give and take, as a lot of you know. Um I want that to be encouraging, but I do frequently say, you've heard me on this podcast say selfishness is a killer of relationships, it's a killer of friendships, it's a killer of businesses, um, sibling relationships when you're being selfish, um, everything. So God calls us to put others first, love others, love God, love people. Um, and love yourself is really not in the Bible. The echo of uh you're you're you are beautiful how you are, because God made you, but loving yourself and and then making people uh call you what you want them to call you, and all those things are not in the Bible. Those things others are are more important than ourselves is what God wants us to to be um living like. So that's a good word. Um kids, you're getting antsy, so let's give you let's give
Kids Corner Sports School Jokes
SPEAKER_01you a question. What is your favorite sport right now?
SPEAKER_04Football.
SPEAKER_01Football, volleyball, and golf, volleyball, and golf, volleyball and golf. And you've been picking up a new sport. What's the new one that you haven't mentioned?
SPEAKER_04Baseball.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, he's been beating me at baseball. We watched the movie Sandlot, actually at Grandpa's house, he watched the movie Sandlot, which I probably wouldn't have let him watch if I looked it up, because there's some parts in there that were in our house. But it made him love baseball and he wanted I coached him in Little League. He didn't want anything to do with it. I coached uh Ava in more games than I did KJ. And she wasn't even yeah, she wasn't even on the team. Um but now he wants to play baseball and he's very good at football. He played a season of football, and I think him and Ava are about to start another flag football season. Ava's first flag football season, she's gonna start in the next couple weeks.
SPEAKER_02Great at golf from Coach Harry's Coach Harry? Yeah.
SPEAKER_01So Coach Harry uh started this past week. You will I'll have him on the podcast. Uh he's an incredible coach. His family um great people, and his dad played golf at Alabama. His dad also uh is a great businessman, so I'll probably even have him on the podcast sometime. I've talked to him on the phone, never met him in person, but um been getting to know him and their family. But he gets to coach Ava and KJ a lot. He's coaching a bunch of other people from the goaded family, so people listening have probably had a lesson with him or an assessment. And uh they've really started to love golf because Coach Harry or he's already loved golf, but Coach Harry's making them play the right way and helping them play the right way and enjoy it. He has some fun games and stuff. Who's better at putting you or Coach Harry?

SPEAKER_01You he's got a lot a lot of confidence. You're better than Coach Harry, too? Oh, he's gonna hear this and what's your favorite subject? Because this is gonna be something we'll watch back. On school work or something? School, yeah.

SPEAKER_01They just got uh you just got new bedsets because we're preparing for Ivy. Um what else has been going? You got a new puppy. I was gonna talk about that later. I forgot, but we said that already. Got a puppy. Um we've got um the summer is it's halfway through, but we got a horse. No, we're gonna go see some horses. Though soon we got a trip to Tennessee, we'll take together. And uh at the end of this month, we're gonna have a little trip to Disney again uh with Spencer and his family. We're gonna go to Islands of Adventure for the first time. Some superheroes and Universal too. So you don't know that you didn't know that really fully until now, but um what else was I gonna say? I had one more thing. Um what is something you would share? So imagine in 10 years you're gonna see this YouTube or this podcast. What do you what would you tell yourself in 10 years from now? So you'll be 17, you'll be 15. What would you tell yourself? Talk to KJ at 17 years old. Would you say right? So when you're 17, you'll be able to drive. You'll be getting your permit possibly around 15. What car would you want right now if you were to choose a truck? A red truck? A Tesla?

Goaded Expansion And What’s Next
SPEAKER_01all I have. I was just gonna give an update on goaded and where we're headed. So we're three years in, and we've uh scaled each year, which has been a blessing. We've created some more free time. We've gotten we've got four buildings now. So they saw the goaded house last night, or I posted the goaded house last night. Um, so we're in Benita Springs. We've got our old our old clubhouse. So we went from the living room to a 2,000 square foot building that's now the goaded clubhouse where you guys take lessons and where a lot of people take lessons and get to hang out if you're a goat club member. The simulators. The simulators. Um, and then we have a goated performance center, which is like a weight room across the street, which is awesome with a partnership uh core fit. And then we have the goaded house.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, the goated house is really cool.
SPEAKER_01The goaded house is awesome. It's got an acre of chipping and putting that will be available to rent, um, like an Airbnb kind of style. Every room is themed after a goat. We might even do a podcast there at some point. Um and we have the new HQ. And the HQ we're kind of growing out of. Um, but we're trusting God's timing there. It's a very full building. We had a shipment today and there's no room to walk. Which kind of how it was at the 2000 square foot building. Remember, we had all those boxes and you had to kind of like suck your tummy in to walk around the corner around stuff. Or at least I had to. Um, but God has blessed us. Uh our roots down here are still are in Benita for the next couple of years at least, because we have all these leases down here. But uh the city's been awesome. Benita, Benita's really cool. They got sugar shack and we do parades and stuff every once in a while. I try to avoid the parades because of the traffic. But um, South Florida's been awesome and a blessing to live down here. Um, if you're listening, come visit us sometime. If you have kids, you can obviously bring the kids too. Goaded Family always knows that. They can come hang out with you guys. We've met some great goaded families, right? Remember, Dunkman just came and visited with his family? So cute. Um so please do that. We want to be there for people. So um there's some families right now, there's some couples that we're praying about that have asked us to kind of talk to and and uh ask me to counsel. Perspective Prayer And How To Reach Us
SPEAKER_01has for us. But if there's anything that you're going through, um just know that I didn't really paint the full picture, but um God's obviously blessed us and blessed all of us. Um a good phrase I've been using recently is um I heard someone say, if we took if we took all of our problems, you put all your problems in a hat, the whole world put their problems in a hat. Okay, so put your problems in there. Put your problems in there. And the whole world has problems in here. You want to pick one of and then you pick one, and that's your problem now. Would you do that or would you just keep your problems? Because what if people put some problems in there in there that they're going through cancer or they just lost their their daddy or they just lost their mommy, or those things. So when you put into perspective, most of us wouldn't trade our problems, right? I'd go, I think I'm just gonna take my problem back. Just give me my problem, because my problem is just that I don't have a horse yet. It's probably your problem. And your problem is probably that well.
SPEAKER_04I don't have a snake.
SPEAKER_01No, he doesn't have a snake yet. So would you trade that with someone that just lost their mommy or daddy or no? So we're very blessed. And most of us could probably say that even as adults, I wouldn't trade my problems. So um I say that to say, put put uh your problems into perspective. Know that God has a plan for you, that God one verse I just found that God draws near to the brokenhearted. And there are a lot of broken-hearted people we come across. There's times where we feel brokenhearted, and whatever your feeling is, in your brokenhearted times, God draws near to you and God's there. So if you seek first and you seek God, I promise He'll be there for you. Um if you need help in any way finding a homeschool group, my wife would probably help all across the country. Any questions? She believes in it. Answer questions. Um marriage, she can tell you how to deal with uh a nut job like me. No. Um, but uh entrepreneurship, I obviously love. We had a conversation last night with a business owner that uh was a blessing for me to try to help his business. Um but goaded is all about others and and trying to be all about others. We can make things very selfish sometimes, obviously, but um we try to be showing showing other people Jesus and being the best we can be. So if there's anything we can do, you've met the Van Duzer family right now. In a couple months, we'll be praying for our Ivy if you're um thinking of it, for our third baby that's on the way, be praying for Marla in the pregnancy and us. Um but next time we probably get together, we'll have a third third child. Yeah, we're excited for that.
